Scott Stevens

The opportunity to transition in 2024 from a career in education to that of a certified coach through iPEC made perfect sense given that Scott embraced many core coaching principles as part of his daily work with students and colleagues.  Scott arrives at Coaching@Altitude with a wealth of independent school experience and energy to partner with educators who recognize both the value and impact of a coaching relationship to strengthen their personal and professional lives.

Throughout Scott’s 41-year career at The Westminster School (Simsbury, Ct) as a teacher, administrator, advisor, and athletic coach, Scott valued his many relationships while always keeping an eye on how he could help others achieve their aspirations and thrive.  Scott welcomed the daily excitement and challenge in the English classroom as he embraced new pedagogy and sought effective ways to become a more engaging teacher of literature and writing.

Over the years and throughout his own growth in the educational world, Scott enjoyed additional roles including that of Assistant Head for Advancement, Dean of Students, Director of Student Life, boys’ hockey and lacrosse coach, and girls’ golf coach.  In addition, Scott served on a host of internal and external committees that continued to steward the school’s mission.

While focused on fundraising, Scott helped guide the school through two comprehensive campaigns, ultimately raising $82 million in support of Westminster’s vision for the future.  Scott traveled extensively around the world, meeting with school constituents and serving as both an ambassador and fundraiser.

Scott received his B.A. in English from the University of Vermont in 1983 and his M.A. in English from The Bread Loaf School of English of Middlebury College in 1991. Scott and his wife Amy, who also dedicated her professional career to Westminster School in a variety of roles, have three children–Nick, Abby, and Will–as well as two grandchildren, George and Walt.

Scott is a "believer" in the transformative power of education. He continues to shape, inspire, and mold both those in his charge and those of us on his “team.” He is a model for how one should live their life: with humility, curiosity, humor, kindness, and gratitude.
